New energy efficiency regulations will start 1st April 2018

All domestic and commercial buildings in the UK available to rent* must have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) which is renewable every 10 years. From 1 April 2018 it will be unlawful to let a property with a rating of E or F.

This means that all properties are likely to be due for an inspection in the relatively near future.

Much like the stickers on domestic appliances, the EPC rates energy efficiency from A (the most efficient) to G (the most inefficient), and will inform the owners and any prospective buyers or tenants not only how energy efficient a property is, but how to save money on energy bills and improve the comfort of the building.

As well as being a requirement for those selling or renting a property, an EPC also provides information on what improvements can be made to improve the efficiency rating, reduce harmful emissions and reduce expenditure on utilities. And by implementing the often simple recommendations, a property can be made more attractive to potential buyers or tenants.
